“If only you could sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to people you may never even dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person.” – Fred Rogers
As you work on taking out the “carbage” and getting your body to use fat for fuel, you may notice some changes in your body. It’s totally normal, friend! THIS is your body on keto!
Some of the symptoms you may be experiencing:
- Metallic taste in mouth
- More frequent trips to the bathroom (peeing a lot)
- Pee smells a little funky (like after you’ve eaten asparagus)
- Breath smells a little stanky
- Thirsty
- Not hungry/can go longer in between meals and not snacking
- Sustained energy/more concentration/no more 3pm slump
- Tired/a little fatigued
- Ready to completely crash at night
- Sleeping soundly
- Cravings for carbs and sugar slowly starting to decrease
- Bowel movements increase OR decrease, and the texture of poop has changed
- Possible change in menstrual cycle
- Increased exercise endurance
These symptoms are all completely normal! AND, if you are NOT experiencing most of these, it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re not getting your body into ketosis. We are all different and experience different symptoms.
Make sure that if you are thirsty, DRINK LOTS OF WATER!
And add some salt to that water. With many frequent bathroom trips you may be expelling a lot of electrolytes and need to replenish.
- If you are tired or have a little headache, you’re getting a bit of the keto flu (which we discussed in yesterday’s email). Drink water, rest up, and know that you are getting the toxins out, good stuff in, and that this is YOUR time to do something FOR yourself, BY yourself.
- If you are crashing at night, keep in mind that your body has been burning fat for fuel and keeping you fueled all day, so by the end of a highly-fueled day, your body is calling for rest to rock your life tomorrow.
- Your poop is a little heavier/thicker because the foods you are eating are more nutrient-dense
- If your period comes late or early (and you’re not pregnant) this is all part of a process of cleaning up your body, and sometimes that will reset hormones
What are some of the things that YOU are experiencing that are new, and you’re wondering if it’s because of keto or not? Post in our group!
